The Lacey And Larkin Frontera Fund, Helping People Fight The Battle Against Injustice

Mike Lacey and Jim Larkin are two people who are working to fight the racial injustice that is prevalent in the country. Every day, people belonging to minority groups are denied their fundamental rights on account of their skin color or the place that they come from.

Even though America likes to look at itself as a progressive nation which is secular in nature, the fact is that racial discrimination is still prevalent today. Mike Lacey and Jim Larkin wanted to be able to help people who have had to face this kind of discrimination and wanted to give them the resources to fight these unjust systems.

With this purpose in mind, the two of them founded the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund. The organization mainly helps people who belong to the Hispanic community, living in the country. The formation of the organization came to them after they had to experience first-hand what it is like to be the victims of racial injustice. Since its inception, the fund has helped save numerous lives and prevented the wrongful imprisonment of countless others.

The incident that gave impetus to the formation of the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund happened a few years ago in Phoenix, Arizona. At the time, Joe Arpaio was the county sheriff and was referred to as America’s Toughest Sheriff. He was known for putting away a considerable amount of illegal immigrants living in the state. However, numerous people soon realized that Joe Arpaio was only putting those people away who belonged to the Hispanic community. Multiple reports started surfacing about individuals who were wrongfully convicted as illegal immigrants even though they had a valid American citizenship. Lacey and Larkin at the time were working for a media outlet and decided to publish a story on Joe Arpaio.

Soon after the article was released, the two were picked up from their homes and put into two separate vans and were not told where they were going. The vans had tinted windows, which prevented Lacey and Larkin from both seeing what was on the outside.

They were soon transported to a detainment facility, still not being told what they were in for. When asked what they were in the cells for, they were told that they were in there for their writing. Both the holding facilities that they were kept in were run by none other than Joe Arpaio.

Larkin and Lacey were both released after forty-eight hours. This led to a widespread agitation not just among people of the Hispanic community, but among people belonging to the media as well. Their arrest then triggered a case against Joe Arpaio, which ended in a settlement.

Instead of keeping the money for themselves, Lacey and Larkin both decided that they would put their money to good use and aid the people who have had to go through what they just went through. This led to the formation of the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund, which today is one of the biggest Hispanic-oriented funds of its kind.

  1. Through all the challenges of the world, one who makes the possibility in helping others has to really get it right. Obviously from the professional cv writers I have seen, a lot could be said. However but for what these men have done with women supporting them all the way they deserve some honors.
